Our Beliefs

Our Mission

At Grace and St. Stephen’s we strive to be the living representation of God’s love for the whole world by acting out every day our mission statement: “To accept God’s Grace and bear witness to his grace in the world.”

We do that within our community, down the street and around the world.

The Baptismal Covenant

At the heart of this mission lives the promises made at baptism. The baptismal covenant, made to God and with our fellow Christians, establishes the framework for how we will live out our lives:

•    To know God as three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit
•    To continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers
•    To persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever we fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord
•    To proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ
•    To seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourselves
•    To strive for justice and peace among all all people and respect the dignity of every human being

Our Five Marks of Mission

Today, these promises resonate and are reflected in the Episcopal Church’s Five Marks of Mission, which help us shape the ways in which Grace and St. Stephen’s embodies and shares  God’s love for all:

•    To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
•    To teach, baptize and nurture new believers
•    To respond to human need by loving service
•    To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and to pursue peace and reconciliation
•    To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth

It is hard work to share in the mission of Christ. We will stumble and fall. But our faith tells us—and we know it to be true—that God is with us, accepts us, strengthens us, and empowers us to offer our life and living to his mission.

We invite you to join us and share in this life-giving work.
