Rector Search
Grace and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church welcomes
the Rev. Dr. Robert Black as our 12th Rector.
Bishop Kym Lucas and the Vestry of Grace and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church are pleased to announce the call of The Rev. Dr. Robert Black as the next Rector of Grace and St. Stephen's. Fr. Robert writes to say:
Dear Beloved Saints of Grace and St. Stephen’s,
I cannot begin to tell you how excited and humbled I am to be called to serve as your next Rector. From the moment that a Search Committee member emailed me in January to ask me to prayerfully consider this position, the Holy Spirit has compellingly and repeatedly drawn us to the lovely parish of Grace and St. Stephen’s and the community of Colorado Springs. Thank you for this opportunity to serve with you in the holy work of accepting and sharing God’s grace.
We are so excited to connect with you all and learn your stories. As a short introduction, since 2014, I have served as the Rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury, North Carolina, a Parish established in 1753. It is a vibrant and faithful congregation that is known for its commitment to the arts, liturgy, and racial healing. Before serving St. Luke’s, I was an Assistant Rector in parishes in Greensboro, NC and Washington, DC. I am also an adjunct professor at Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, teaching classes in preaching and worship.
I am blessed and grateful to be married to Tyler, a CPA, and we have two daughters, Eleanor (12) and Rowen (9). As a family, we enjoy Star Wars, hikes, and card and board games. My interests include reading, kettlebell training, and running. When Tyler and I visited Colorado Springs earlier this month, we immediately felt at home and so enjoyed meeting with the Search Committee, Vestry, and staff. We are eager to join the beloved community of Grace and St. Stephen’s.
Together, I pray that we will grow in faith, hope, and love, serving as a place of relief to a searching and weary world. Grace and St. Stephen’s is an amazing parish that is engaged in vital ministry and we look forward to being a part of what God is up to here. When I arrive, we will be sure to find plenty of ways to meet and get to know one another. Until then, please keep us in prayer during this process of transition and moving and we will, likewise, be praying for you.
Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation
in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.
Faithfully,
The Rev. Dr. Robert Black
